Meet The Amazing Nanette Stucki
Nanette, the name she has always gone by until she moved here, grew up in the small town of
Smithfield near Logan in Cache County Utah. She however was born in Panguitch Utah while
her family was on vacation seeing family. Nanette decided to make her entrance into the world 6
weeks early. They were in the middle of nowhere and the only doctor they could find was drunk.
They had to wait for him to sober up so he could deliver her.
Nanette was the 5th of 10 children. She has 2 older brothers, 2 older sisters and 5 younger
brothers. (One of whom is Mike Roe in our ward and her next door neighbor) Her father was a
school teacher and her mother stayed at home with the kids during the time she was home.
Money was always tight but it taught Nanette great lessons. The family owned a large lot up the
street from their home that they used for their garden. All summer long they would can and
preserve food. Nanette's talented and resourceful mom would bake bread and cinnamon rolls.
Nanette and her sister would deliver loafs to the many widows and widowers on their street.
They developed a closeness to these elder folk. Nanette loved them and their stories. She
wishes we had more elderly in our ward for her kids to have the same types of experiences.
Nanette and her friends would spend their whole day at Mack Park in Smithfield hiking the trails,
playing Charlie's Angels and hide-n-go-seek. They were always outside. It was a different time
and place and basically all of the kids ran all over Smithfield having fun.
From the time Nanette was 12, she spent her summers in Panguitch working for her Grandma
at the Red Canyon Indian Store on the road to Bryce Canyon. This would provide her with a
love of Indian jewelry and the money she would need to get school clothes and expenses she
had throughout the year. On the way home, they would stop in Provo and buy all their school
clothes.
The year Nanette started high school, they were too late getting back from Panguitch and
missed Volleyball try-outs so she tried out for the tennis team. She loved tennis and played all
four years. One of her best friends became her doubles partner and they took 5th in state in
second doubles. The next year her partner had graduated so Nanette played second singles
and again took 5th in state. She also played basketball and ran track. She did the high jump (but
no one really taught her the correct technique). Her senior year she had her best jump ever of
4'10''. That qualified her for state. When she got to state, the girls competing with her asked if
they could teach her how to properly jump. She was thrilled to be taught. That allowed her to
jump 5'1'' and she took 6th.
Nanette didn't realize you needed to apply for college. The summer after she graduated, her
dad had a connection up at Ricks so he called and got her in. She lived next door to her former
tennis partner and her sister. She loved Ricks. This was the first time she had a curfew but it
didn't stop the fun. During her second year of Ricks, Nanette got engaged. It was to be
expected. Her sister called Ricks « the Love Boat. » After graduating, that summer Nanette got
off the «Love Boat » and went down to Panguitch to work. Once there she realized she really
wasn't ready to be married and wanted to go on a mission. She attended the next year at USU.
During that year, she went to hang out with a friend from Ricks. Her friend had a roommate
named Eric Stucki but Nanette only had a mission on her mind.
Before Nanette got her mission call she and a friend saw a vacation to the Bahamas advertised
for $200 including airfare and accommodations. While in the Bahamas the mission call came.
She was so excited for her parents to pick her up from the airport so she could open the call, but
since they left it in the car, she waited until the restaurant to find out she had been called to
Denmark.
Nanette loved her mission. She said the food was so amazing, especially the pastries and the
ice cream. She did eat a few disgusting things though like pig heart stew and rye bread soaked
in chocolate sauce. The Danes were a very content people however and so they weren't very
interested in religion. Nanette was able to work with refugees that were in Denmark. Nanette
was able to teach English lessons to refugees and from this, was a part of an amazing baptism
of an Iranian refugee.
When Nanette came home, she started school again at USU. One day after playing Rec
basketball, she and her friend decided to find her friend a date for the upcoming Glen Miller
dance. They started going door to door to find a date, missionary style. Eventually, they ended
up at her old friend from Ricks's apartment. He was roommates again with Eric Stucki and
another Eric. The friend ended up snagging a date with the other Eric, so Nanette said to Eric
Stucki, «Well we should go too. » Eric agreed. They went on the date. Nanette had told her
companions that the first guy she kissed after her mission was who she was going to marry. So
up until Eric she refused to kiss any date. But Eric got a little peck in. They met in February, got
engaged by May and were married in September. When Eric asked Nanette's dad for
permission to marry him her dad said, «Are you sure you want to? She's my fiestiest daughter. »
During their senior years, a year after the wedding, Emily was born. Eric graduated that winter
from USU in Parks and Rec. While they were waiting for him to get on with the State of Utah,
They had an opportunity to manage Nanette's grandparents trailer park in Red Canyon. From
home, Nanette completed an internship and graduated from USU with a degree in Exercise
Science.
Nanette found Red Canyon very lonely. There wasn't really anyone around them except for the
tourists. Eric was concerned about Nanette's loneliness and he encouraged her to go to the
Homemaking meeting. She was so glad she did because that was where she made friends.
They proceeded to move 7 times in the next 7 years and every time Eric would encourage her
to go to homemaking.
After Red Canyon, Eric still was waiting to get on with the state so he took a job at Dixie College
as the intramural coordinator. While they lived there, their 2nd child, Alicia was born. From St.
George, Eric got on with the state. He took a job by Kamas Utah at Rock Port. To complete his
job he had to go into the Police Academy. He would live at the police academy from Sunday
night to Friday night and then go to work on Saturday and Sunday. They ended up loving
Kamas. They thought they would return there someday. The people were wonderful. They also
had their oldest son, Richie, just before moving from there.
Eric took a job at the Coral Pink Sand dunes. It was the middle of nowhere. They were half way
between Kanab and Orderville. They attended church in Orderville. This was a very happy time.
They had pink sand for their yard and it wasn't uncommon to find cows grazing there. She had 3
kids and stayed home spending time with them. It was a very relaxed pace. But a year and a
half later, Eric landed his dream job as the Off Highway Vehicle coordinator for the State of Utah
in Salt Lake city. They made their seventh move in seven years to Kaysville.
Nanette was pregnant with their 4th child. When they had just moved in, Nanette went into
premature labor at 33 weeks. They rushed to Davis Hospital not knowing it wasn't the best place
for the baby's care. Their son Tommy was born and was very sick. One day the hospital called
Nanette to tell her they needed to do a spinal tap on the baby, that he had fluid on the brain.
Earlier that week 2 people had told Nanette and Eric that they needed to get their baby out of
that hospital. That day when Eric and Nanette got to the hospital one of the nurses pulled them
aside and told them the same thing. That night Nanette called Primary Children's and were told
by a doctor that they don't do spinal taps on infants and that their baby most likely needed
surgery. They life flighted Tommy to Primary Children's. A surgery was performed that created a
reservoir for the fluid on Tommy's brain to collect and then they would drain it. They hoped
eventually Tommy's brain would start to drain itself, but it never did, so they installed a
permanent shunt into his head.
Nanette came to adore the town of Kaysville. Their little house was the perfect size for them.
Nanette felt like her four children was all she could handle and went to the temple to find an
answer. She had the feeling of peace. She took this as an answer that her family was complete.
Little did she know she was already expecting and imagine everyone's surprise when they
ended up with twin boys. Neither Eric or Nanette have twins in their family.
Now their cozy little house wasn't feeling so cozy. They had 4 growing boys in one bedroom and
needed some space. They loved Kaysville and didn't want to leave. They looked around for a
home with a little land and found Woodside had the best price for the square footage. Even
though after moving here they had many problems with the builder, it still has been a good
experience. She says she is really glad to have moved to our neighborhood has broadened her
ring of friends and associates. She loves how everywhere she goes she knows someone.
Kaysville feels like home to her. She is in the best time of life, enjoying being a mother and
cherishing every part she can.
I asked Nanette what piece of advice she would give to others that she has learned from her
life. She said, « My mom always told me not to miss church except for illness because once you
stay home once it makes it that much harder to go back. I've taken this advice and through the
years my desire to attend church, to feel the spirit and learn, just keeps increasing. » Wise
words for sure! That companionship of the spirit is by far the most important thing we can have
in this life.
We are so lucky to have Nanette in our ward. She is very positive and down to earth. When you
talk with her she makes you feel like she really enjoys your company. Take the time to get to
know Nanette. She's a delight.

Spotlight: Ami Seamons
Ami was born in Logan, Utah and raised in a small
farming community called Newton. She is
the 2nd oldest of 6 kids, 5 girls and 1 boy.
She grew up on a dairy farm and her and her siblings were ALWAYS
outside. She learned how to work HARD on the farm. While most kids were playing
and having sleepovers Ami was up at 6:00am (every summer morning) putting on
clothes still wet from the night before to go move sprinkler pipe for a few
hours. She would get home eat breakfast, change, make a lunch and be out in the
tractor or truck cutting or hauling hay for a few more hours only to come home
feed cows, change back into her wet clothes and go out to move the same
sprinkler pipe she did that morning.
Ami was driving a semi truck before she was driving a car. This is how
her and her siblings spent every summer until she started college. It was hard work but they got paid well and
she never had to have a “real job” until she went to college. Ami says her family was really close because
of all the time they spent working together. Ami didn’t always appreciate it as
a teenager but she does now. If Ami
weren’t working she would be out jumping in the feed pits or climbing the hay
bales or traipsing around the hills on the 4 wheeler. Ami’s family worked hard but they played hard
too, they traveled a lot, played games in the yard, camped, and their favorite family
tradition was the week they got to spend at their grandmas Condo at Bear Lake.
It was better than Christmas for them.
She played soccer and softball when she was younger
but she always came back to dance. She started with basic classes and moved on
to competitive teams and advance performing groups.

The Loveable Leslie Whitehead
Leslie was born in LDS hospital and soon after was united with her new adoptive parents. She was their second child, she has a brother 4 years older who also was adopted. She grew up in the same home in North Salt Lake all of her life. Her parents had waited so long and were so excited to have these two beautiful children, they gave them everything they had and spent as much time together as they could.
From a very young age Leslie remembers many family vacations. Her favorites were Disneyland, Zions, Bryce Canyon, and Mountain Outings. Their family were HUGE New York Yankees fans (the baseball team) and traveled to Oakland and San Francisco a few times to see the Yankees play. When she was older, their family continued traveling but they traded in Disneyland and mountain outings for cruises. Even now their family still goes all together on Family Vacations . Leslie's favorite places to travel have been St. John's for their awesome snorkeling, Jamaica, Turks and Caicos and Antigua. Leslie hates the winter and being cold so the Caribbean truly is her happy place.
Leslie was encouraged to do any sport or activity she desired. She was always very tall and grew tall very early. By the time she finished Junior High she was already at her full height of 6'. Therefore she tended to pick sports and activities that she felt comfortable doing with her tall frame. She found she loved ice skating, played competitive softball as a pitcher and danced.
When Leslie was little, her father's health deteriorated very rapidly. He has Rheumatoid Arthritis and when Leslie was 12, he went in for a knee replacement and foot Replacement (the knuckles in toes ) which led to some interior infections, 25 surgeries in the next 5 years and her dad being in a wheelchair most of the time. Leslie remembers having wheelchair races with her brother on a big ramp her Grandpa made for her dad to be able to get in the house. There were many health care providers in the home and they would have Leslie help them do different procedures on him including putting in his pic lines. This and being at the hospital ALOT, however began a love for the medical field in Leslie's life. Over years, she had a dream of being a NICU nurse combining her two loves, medicine and babies.
Also, being so tall so young was very difficult for an adolescent girl, even one as beautiful as Leslie. It wasn't fun to think about going to school dances when only a few boys at the school were taller than her. So instead Leslie focused on academics. She took her love for nursing and completed her CNA training at the DATC before graduating from high school. This was very fun for her, she and all her friends would leave high school half-way through the day and go up to the DATC to take the courses together.
Still Leslie felt very out of place being so tall. A few times while at the mall she would have modeling scouts come up to her and give her their card. One time a scout took a step further and called her mother. This made her mother really stop and consider that this might be the thing to really help Leslie feel more comfortable with her height. After some thought, They decided to go with an agency in Salt Lake that they felt comfortable with. She began modeling classes and found she was quite good at it.
Leslie also worked in High school at a scrapbook company in Bountiful. She worked there for 3 years. She learned quickly that she didn't like scrapbooking, but she did like having a pay check. While working there she met another girl who kept telling Leslie about her big brother Jeremy. This girl was very good at photography and took Leslie's Senior pictures. When Jeremy saw Leslie's pictures on his sister's computer he asked about her. This delighted his sister as she had been wanting to set them up. But when Jeremy heard Leslie was only 17 that freaked him out a little. So Jeremy patiently waited until July when Leslie would be graduated and be the grand old age of 18, then he asked her out. As soon as Leslie heard he was 6 '4 '' she said, « Sign me up! »
A month after meeting Jeremy, Leslie moved to Orem to attend UVU and start in pursuing her RN. She continued to model and also worked in a nursing home. Every weekend she would drive home while she and Jeremy continued their courtship, as Jeremy was attending Weber. During this time Leslie learned something about herself, she learn she didn't like bodily fluids at all! (Especially from older people.) She started questioning her decision to pursue nursing. It also seemed more and more that her and Jeremy would be getting married in the not so distant future.
In April of that year, Jeremy's family took a trip back to New York and all the church history sites. They invited Leslie to come along with them. While in the Sacred Grove Jeremy pulled Leslie away from the rest of the group. He got down on one knee and asked her to marry him. It was a very spiritual proposal. She was surprised. She knew he was going to ask but didn't even realize he had the ring yet. She accepted and for them the Sacred Grove is not just the place where God revealed truth to young Joseph but the place their family was started.
On July 22nd of that year they were married, Leslie was just barely 19. She knew she needed to make a choice about nursing school. She decided to drop nursing and instead went into the medical assistant training and also started a job with her friend at DMBA, (the churches insurance company).to help get some income. However, as often happens in life, the Lord had other plans. 4 months after being married Leslie found out she was pregnant and very, very sick. She quit the medical assistant training program and soon after had to quit her job as well. Modeling was also on the back Burner. But she was so excited to have a baby. She had always loved babies and had always wanted to be a mom.
2 years after Halle was born, Leslie came to a cross roads in her modeling career. After having a scout from New York talk to her about the possibility of a modeling career there (not knowing she had a family) She realized that she either needed to really devote time into it and do more to go anywhere, or quit and be a mom. The choice was easy and she hasn’t looked back since. She quit modeling and a year later they welcomed their second child, a boy named Dallas into their home. 2 ½ years after that they welcomed Alyssa and last year their final child, Drake was born. Leaving them with the perfect ratio of 2 boys and 2 girls. Which is exactly what Leslie had hoped for ever since she was little and so badly wanted a sister!
Halle is very fun, energetic and loves life! She has an amazing singing voice and is musically talented. Dallas loves every sport and especially has a love for building things and figuring out why things work, much like his dad. Alyssa is a very happy and fun little girl. She loves dancing and tumbling and is a very free spirit! Drake is the « snuggle bug » of the group and loves his dad more than anything. Leslie says her children and husband are her happiness. She didn't realize you could be so connected to someone and love them so thoroughly. She says she is normally a very shy and reserved person and doesn’t like to be noticed and in the spotlight (unless walking the runway where nobody knows her) She says her children have helped her come out of her shell and inspire her to be the best she can. She feels very blessed to be a stay at home mom.
In 2012 Leslie and Jeremy decided they wanted a different/bigger home. They were living in Farmington in the Eagle Bay school boundaries. Hallie was in the Spanish immersion program and they really wanted to keep her going in that. They looked and looked but were having no luck finding the home they loved. One day while out driving, not looking for homes they drove past the model home for Woodside. Leslie thought, « That's exactly the home I want. » She asked Jeremy to stop, but Jeremy reminded her they didn't want to leave Eagle Bay. She mentioned that it wouldn't really hurt to just look.
When they entered the model home the spirit struck her so strongly. That was the exact home she wanted and this neighborhood was where they needed to be. Both her and Jeremy felt it. That day they put money down on their lot. (This impulsivity was not like them) They loved the view of the mountains and the openness of the neighborhood. Leslie says they have been here for 4 years now and love it. They haven't missed Eagle Bay and she loves that she can just send her kids outside and they have a multitude of friends to play with.
In her free time Leslie likes to decorate her house. She also loves to garden and her yard is very pretty. She also likes putting photo books together online. She still really loves traveling and has continued her family's tradition of traveling with her kids. She hopes to be able to continue doing that and still considers working on her dream of becoming a NICU nurse.
I asked Leslie what piece of advice she's gained from living her life. She said that it's important to live today for today and enjoy it. So much of her time when her dad was sick or going through other trials, she felt like if she could just skip ahead until it had passed, or the trial was over, that everything would be OK after that. What she learned though is when one does that, they miss out on all the good things happening in between because they're always looking forward. Now things are hard instead of saying, « Just wait and this will be over. » She changes her attitude and says, « Look for the Positive today! »
I loved visiting with Leslie. She's not only a great listener but I was surprised by the many experiences she has had in her own life. If you get a chance ask her questions about what she's done, you will be glad you did. She is fun and very open to talking about herself. She's a very great lady!

Introducing the adorable Amy Gheen
Amy
was born in Provo the oldest child of 4 children. When she was 2 her
parents moved their family to Orem where she lived until she was 14
years old. As a child she would play outside with her friends, but
her absolute favorite thing to do was to read. In fact, if her
parents really wanted to punish her, they would take away her books.
She
attended Orem Jr. High school and while in Jr. High she made the
girls basketball team. It was kind of amazing because she had never
played basketball until she learned how in P.E. She was however good
enough that she continued being on the basketball team until her
Junior year of high school. Her career ended when she tore her ACL
while playing on a carpeted church floor. It was right before
try-outs and it put her out for the season, which turned into being
finished. But tearing her ACL turned out to be a blessing.
After several months of physical therapy, Amy knew what she
wanted to study when she got to college.
When
she was 14, her parents decided they wanted a little better
neighborhood for their children so they moved their kids to Lindon
and Amy to Pleasant Grove high school. At the time Amy was angry that
they were going to move. But over time she realized it was a very
good thing for her family and she herself ended up with a better
group of friends. She was also on seminary council during her Senior
year.
Amy
discovered she liked a couple of things. One was to work for money.
She got her first job as a bagger at Macey's grocery store. Also
during the summer she taught swimming lessons. These jobs gave her a
surprising amount of socializing and she loved saving her money for
when she could attend BYU. The other thing she really liked was Math.
She took the AP Calculus class. She loved it because she felt like
the class was a big study club, getting together after class to
figure out the puzzle of Math. She also enjoyed her AP History,
English, and Physics classes.
After
Amy graduated, she went to BYU opting for living on campus. While in
high school she had had a friend who was on a ballroom dance team.
She had taken Amy to watch her competitions and Amy really liked
them. So at BYU she took every ballroom dance class she could for
fun. It was better though to have a partner when entering the class.
The first class she was in, her partner's name was Paul. They had a
great time but the next year Paul had a different partner. He
recommended to Amy that she partner up with his brother. So she did,
and they liked each other so much they started dating and eventually
married in the Salt Lake Temple.
They
both continued their education at BYU. After a while, after
much prayer and pondering, Amy changed her major from Physical
Therapy/Sports Medicine to History because it didn’t make sense to
spend all the money on the required graduate degree if she wasn’t
to be the family breadwinner. So, 2 ½ years after they were
married, Amy graduated from BYU and the couple welcomed their first
child into their home a couple of weeks later. A daughter they named
Lucy. That year, Amy started being a stay-at-home mom and her husband
began a Master’s degree program at BYU. It was an adjustment at
first but she loved all the time she had for reading. About 2 years
later they had their second child Nathan.
After
her husband graduated, he wanted to go on for a Ph.D so they moved to
Bloomington, Indiana. Amy loved the midwest. She loved the humidity,
the laid back culture and the fireflies. She loved how the ward was
family and that they clung together. She even enjoyed having 3
callings at the same time. Also while living in Indiana they added 2
more children to their family, Grace and Spencer.
After
Indiana, Amy's husband needed additional training and went for a
Post-doctoral Fellowship at Boystown Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska.
Although still in the Midwest, Amy didn't love Nebraska as much. It
was a bigger city and bigger ward. She was also having a very
difficult time in her marriage. But the bright side of it was Amy was
only 25 minutes away from a temple. She feels that the Lord sent them
there just so she could be close to a temple. While in Omaha, a
daughter, Madeline came to their family.
Finally,
after all the schooling, her husband got a real job at the University
of Iowa as a professor and they moved. It was a smaller town and Amy
loved it as much as she had loved Indiana. They lived there 8 years.
She loved serving in the Primary, and in the Relief Society in
that ward and made many, many life-long friends. They added two
more kids to their brood, James and Rebekah for a total of 7
children. It was while living in Iowa that things in Amy's life
started really falling apart, or perhaps in place.
Her
husband had battled a pornography addiction since he was 13 years
old. Finally he quit battling. He told her he didn't believe the
church was true anymore and wanted something different out of his
life. In August of 2011, he left the family. The divorce
proceedings were lengthy, but were gratefully concluded the following
May. Due to the unhealthy and abusive nature of the
parent/child relationship, her children did not want to have anything
to do with their dad. So, Amy had the kids with her full-time,
which she considered a real blessing. Although Amy was now on
her own with 7 kids, she actually didn't mind. In fact she found
being a single mother was much easier than her life had been
pretending that everything was ok in her marriage. She said in one of
her previous wards someone had told her, « You're the perfect
family. » She thought, « No, we are a family that looks
like a perfect apple, but on the inside is completely rotten. »
She felt so relieved to be free of pretension and stress that she had
no desire to date.
After
2 years of single life, she was reading an illustrated story of the
Bible to one of her kids. It was the story of the children of Israel
sending spies into the land of Canaan. Two of the spies came back
with a good report that the land was indeed a land of milk and honey.
The other spies came back and told everyone about the huge giants
they would have to get by in order to obtain the land. They didn't
feel like it was possible. At this time the Spirit whispered to Amy,
« If you trust me, I can help you get to the promised land.
Otherwise, you can just continue to wander around in the
wilderness. » She knew he was talking about dating and
remarrying. So with faith, she took a step.
After
consulting with some friends about the best way to do online dating
to keep her and her kids safe, she registered for a 3 month account
on ldssingles.com. She told the Lord if she was going to do this, she
would give it her all. So everyday she made herself contact or
comment on a person's profile. She never really even cared if they
responded back until she found a man's profile named Michael Gheen.
Meanwhile,
Michael had been actively seeking a wife for the last 27 years. He,
in exasperation one night, told the Lord he had done everything he
could to find his eternal companion. The Spirit whispered to him that
there was one thing he hadn't done yet. So he also signed up for an
account on ldssingles.com.
When
Amy first contacted Michael he was out of town, so he didn't get back
to her right away, but when he did, he wrote her a page long message
about what he thought he knew about her from her message and profile.
Amy was intrigued, he was dead on. They wrote back and forth for 5
days and then decided to meet. Michael flew to Iowa. Amy decided she
absolutely would not sugar coat her life Whoever was interested in
her would need to know what it was like to live in a family with 7
children. During his week visit everything was with the kids,
including back to school night.
After
Michael returned to Utah they continued to write and call. A month
later Madeline was getting baptized and wanted Michael to baptize
her. He flew out again. The following month, Amy and her kids drove
out to Utah for Thanksgiving with family. During the holiday Michael
proposed. They however didn't set a date because they wanted to get
married in the temple. It would all depend on when Amy could get her
sealing canceled. On February 1st, Amy had her cancelation and in
mid-March 2014, they were married.
Michael
moved out to Iowa so the kids could finish out the school year. They
also started the necessary paperwork for Amy to leave Iowa with the
kids and move to Utah. At this point, even though he had had no
contact with the children, Amy's ex-husband started pushing back. He
was not going to let her take the kids and leave. In a last ditch
effort, right before they were to all leave, they went into
mediation. Through a series of events in the mediation that can only
be called a miracle, her ex- husband went from being adamant about
the kids not leaving to being willing to drop everything and even to
consider relinquishing his rights to the children so they could be
adopted by Michael.
Meanwhile,
they were cleared to move to Utah. They originally moved to
Michael’s home in American Fork, where they lived for the first
several months. But that wasn’t really a home the right size
for an instant family of 9. They finally found a home in Fruit
Heights. The family continued to pray that Amy’s ex-husband would
follow through with his promise to relinquish his parental rights and
allow Michael to adopt the kids. They were all overjoyed when
Amy's ex-husband signed the paperwork at the end of November. The
attorneys handling the case warned the family to expect a
several-month wait to get on the judge’s docket calendar. They were
so surprised when the attorney called back a few hours after filing
the case and said that a Davis County Judge had a cancellation and
could they possibly appear before the judge on December 2nd? The
family was ecstatic! But cautious as well, they weren't sure if
the adoption could go through so fast because they hadn't been
married a year yet. At the proceedings the judge asked Michael why he
wanted to adopt these kids. Tears filled Michael's eyes and he said,
« Because I love them. » All the kids gave their consent,
they wanted Michael to be their Dad. Twenty minutes later the
judge signed all the paperwork, making the emotional connection a
legal connection as well.
Although,
they now had a wonderful forever family, they weren't really happy
living in Fruit Heights. They started thinking that although they had
just bought their home 8 months ago, maybe they needed to move. They
started looking around and found our neighborhood. They liked how
down to earth everyone seemed and accepting. They felt so good about
their house that they bought it and moved into our ward. Shortly
after moving into the ward, the family welcomed little Benjamin into
the family.
I
asked Amy if she were to give her younger self advice what would she
say. She told me President Holland said what she would say best in a
talk he gave in general conference. He said, « Cling to your
faith. Hold to your hope. Pray always and be believing. Don't give
up. Don't you quit. You keep walking. You keep trying. There is help
and happiness ahead – a lot of it. You keep your chin up. It will
be all right in the end. Trust God and believe in good things to
come. Some blessings come soon, some come late, and some don't come
until heaven; but for those who embrace the gospel of Jesus Christ,
they come. »
I
find Amy to be the kindest of souls. She is loving and a great
listener. Her life experience enriches the talents she brings to our
ward. I sincerely hope you will take the time to get to know her. I
hope you will find, just like I did, that I'm better off for it.

spotlight: Elisha Peterson
Elisha was born in Utah and moved to California at the age of 3 with her mother after her parents divorced. As a young child Elisha loved singing, dancing and being outdoors. One of her favorite memories as a little girl was a time after being at her dad’s house in Utah she came back to California and her mom had redecorated her room with everything Rainbow Bright! Rainbows were everywhere!! Elisha loved Rainbow bright and was thrilled that her mom did this for her. Another fond memory she has is waking up early and taking walks with her mom and brother.
Elisha went to Monache High School in Porterville, California. She participated in Choir, and graduated in 1995. She moved to Layton, Utah in 1997 and attended the College of Massage Therapy, and she graduated in 1999.
Elisha met her husband Chad in 2000 at a dance club. They dated for 1 year, were engaged for 1 year and married in the San Diego temple in 2002. One of her favorite memories with her husband was a wonderful Caribbean cruise where they had a chance to swim with sharks!
Elisha has 3 children, Ethan who was born in 2004 and is 12 years old. He loves reading and playing video games. Gavin was born 18 months later in 2005, he is now 11 and loves playing outside, drawing, and playing Minecraft. Her third child is Donavan, he was born in 2009 and is 7 years old. He loves baseball, Minecraft, drawing and playing with friends.
Elisha’s family loves to play games together, go hiking, and read the scriptures.
She loves to exercise, sing (she has an amazing voice!) interior design (she loves changing things in her home), reading about politics and world events, and she has a love for reading the scriptures, it’s her favorite book!
It was so great to visit with Elisha, she is beautiful inside and out! So happy to have her in our ward!!
